What is Synephrine?

Synephrine is basically a natural stimulant that is chemically similar to the now-banned substance known as ephedrine. Synephrine is sometimes referred to as ‘bitter orange’ as it is derived from small oranges. In actual fact, it is naturally found in the rind of the orange, which is why it is known as bitter orange. Synephrine is obtained from the oranges, and once you have it, you can then benefit in a whole host of different ways. The primary benefit associated with synephrine however, is the fact that it has been proven to function as a potent and powerful weight loss supplement.

How does it work?

Synephrine functions by stimulating the sympathetic nervous system of the human body, which is actually activated during periods of stress or excitement. It results in an increase in heart rate, which is why our heart rates increase when we’re excited, when we’re stressed, and when we’re nervous. Synephrine functions on a cellular level, by targeting different receptors in the body. It releases epinephrine, also known as adrenalin, and norepinephrine. These receptors work in the body in a number of different ways. Beta 3 receptors for example, can increase the rates of fat that are released from our body fat stores to be used as energy. This is a process known as lipolysis and it is especially beneficial, because not only does it result in more fat being burnt off, but it also leads to an increase in energy levels, so not only do we burn fat, but we also have more energy and we feel much better as a result. Synephrine can also improve athletic performance as it dilates blood vessels and therefore increases blood flow, as well as oxygen and nutrient transportation.

What are the main benefits of using Synephrine supplements?

Some of the primary benefits associated with synephrine include:

Fat loss

One of the biggest reasons why synephrine is so popular, is the fact that it promotes fat loss. Synephrine speeds up lipolysis, meaning that fat cells and body fat stores can be targeted as a specific form of energy, helping us to burn fat, and fuel our workouts.

More energy

Not only does synephrine allow us to burn more body fat, it also allows us to have more energy as a result, which makes us feel better, and it also enhances our athletic performance. The more energy we have, the better we perform, and again, the more productive our workouts become.

Increased mental focus

As synephrine functions as a stimulant, not only does it increase physical energy levels, it also increases mental clarity and mental focus as a result. This helps us to think clearer, it allows us to focus, and it makes us more alert.

Other benefits include:

  • Fat loss
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Increased mental clarity and focus
  • Much safer than ephedrine
  • Easy to consume
  • Potent and powerful effects
  • Can enhance the CNS
  • Improved immunity
  • And more…

How and when should it be consume?

For optimal results, experts recommend three separate dosages of 20mg, so, up to 60mg per day in total. Some users however, will simply consume one dosage of 50mg per day. For increased rates of absorption, experts recommend consuming synephrine with a whole food source.

Synephrine VS Caffeine

Although they’re both considered to be stimulants, synephrine and caffeine are still pretty unique to one another. Whilst both provide stimulating effects, the stimulating effects of caffeine are considered to be much more potent. Many caffeine users will get jittery and may experience comedowns when the caffeine wears off, whereas synephrine, due to the fact that it is not as potent, will not cause as severe side effects or comedowns, making it a better alternative to users who are sensitive to caffeine.

As most users use synephrine for fat loss purposes, they will generally consume it with supplements designed to help provide sustained and regulated bursts of energy. Many BCAA supplements often stack very well with synephrine. Yohimbe is also often consumed with synephrine, especially when fat loss is the primary objective.

Potential side effects

As with all supplements, always consult your doctor before using any new supplements, and discontinue usage if you experience any adverse side effects. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should never use this supplement. Although safe if consumed in the right dosages, some users have experienced mild side effects. If recommended dosages are exceeded, more serious side effects are possible. Potential side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Dizzy spells
  • Increased and erratic heart rates
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Heart complications in people with existing heart conditions
