Citrulline Malate (1 lb)

review

Citrulline Malate helps to enable more muscle growth by increasing Nitric Oxide production and excreting metabolic waste products i.e. lactate and ammonia. This results in a major increase in strength, reduction in muscular fatigue and faster recovery time.

What is Citrulline Malate?

Citrulline Malate is a supplement derived from fruits such as watermelons, apples, and other fleshy melons. It is a non-essential amino acid in which we do not have an abundance of in the body naturally. What citrulline malate does is it allows the body to make more ATP and simultaneously remove more metabolic waste products (lactate, ammonia). Simply put the urea cycle (excretion of lactate, toxins, etc) that is performed at the cellular level is done more effective. Due to the increased effectiveness of the body to excrete lactate, the athlete in turn has more energy to do work and perform muscle contractions.

It has been shown to help:

  1. increase the excretion of lactate and ammonia (the bodies metabolic waste products)
  2. increase the production Nitric Oxide (NO) in the muscles
  3. increase phosphocreatine synthesis leading to more ATP being available for cellular energy and muscle contractions thus increasing recovery and immune function

Citrulline malate has been shown to be most effective in anaerobic exercise such as weight training, strength training, power lifting, and athletic bouts short in duration.

Citrulline Malate Dosage

Most people supplementing with citrulline malate will find taking it 20-30 minutes pre-workout on an empty stomach is the most effective. A starting dose of 6 grams per day will suffice and you may up the dose to 10 grams for the full benefits of the supplement to be realized. It is best taken pre-workout to give a boost while training but can also be taken split up into 3 doses. Once upon awaking on an empty stomach, one dose pre-workout, and one dose prior to bedtime. The later dosing protocol with the 3 doses would be the most effective at enhancing recovery as the first all at once dose is more suited to increasing gym performance.

What to Stack with it

This product on its own is very effective but when adding it in a stack it can cause a synergistic effect to enable more muscle growth. Citrulline Malate has been indicated to stack extremely well with creatine monohydrate or Creapure creatine monohydrate, L-Arginine, Beta-Alanine and Acetyl L-Carnitine.

Citrulline Malate Benefits

Muscle building

Citrulline Malate can cause increases in strength, improved muscular endurance and quicker recovery. The increased Nitric Oxide (NO) production can cause increased blood flow to the muscles and coupled with the metabolic excretion of the lactate can allow you to get more repetitions on specific exercises before reaching failure. It can be beneficial for muscle building also by enhancing the recovery rate so you are more recovered for your next workout.

Fat loss

Although not directly used for fat loss, a small proportion of Citrulline Malate research shows that increased NO, and reduced lactate would allow for more endurance while performing cardiovascular exercise in an attempt to lose body fat. Due to its effects on anaerobic performance it may increase the ability to do short bouts of cardio (High intensity cardio) and may be used in combat sports training (MMA, boxing, martial arts, etc).

General health

Citrulline Malate is reserved mostly for athletic performance and offers limited benefits to general health. With that being said very few side effects have been reported with its supplementation and it is proving itself to be a safe and efficient supplement.

Q: I have been trying to educate myself on what suppliments will create the best stack without conflicting with one another. So far I have chosen Creapure Creatine, AAKG, and Beta Alanine pre and post workout in a protein drink with 45 grams of blended whey isolate and whey concentrate protein powder. I will drink BCAA's during my workout. I would like to continue to take my l-glutamine in the mornings and after my workout. But because I have to take it on an empty stomach I wonder if you have a suggested dosage regime? I also think that your Citrulline Malate might be a benifit to the above stack but I'm not sure about conflicts or is it something I should think about taking at a different cycle? Thanks for any information you can give me. Bill.
Asked by:  - 4/6/2014
A: Hi Bill, it doesn't look like anything will conflict in this stack. Also, citrulline malate would be a great addition.

Citrulline Malate (1 lb) Reviews

Average Rating review
3 Stars Review Okay
While I don't think it is the best part of my pre or post workout shake(Weirdly sour), I can say that it has improved my recovery rates, which has lead to more gym time/more gains. However, the average rating is for what I believe is a non essential product if it doesn't fit your budget, and not tasting so great. Definitely buying again though, personally, as my results with the product have been good.

5 Stars Review Better Than Expected
I had been searching for a Canadian supplier of Citrulline Malate powder for a few months when I came across canadianprotein. At first I hesitated to order because the products weren't name brands. In the end I gave in and ordered. I was not disappointed. Price was great and shipping was quicker than expected. I had absolutely no issues with my order and would order again.

5 Stars Review Good Price, Good Results, Awesome Product
Great price for the amount of Citrulline Malate you get. It's hard to find in supplement shops and is often highly priced. Product shipped out fast, got to me in under a week. I'm currently taking this product in conjunction with Creatine and Beta-Alanine. I have definitely noticed a difference in my muscular endurance since adding Citruline Malate to my pre-workout combo. I find I am able to add dropsets or a 4th set on most of my exercises without affecting the weight of exercises I do afterword. I definitely recommend this product as part of a Creatine-Beta Alanine-Citruline combo.
